Jean-François Debongnie

Born in Brussels 1968, Belgian artist Jean-François Debongnie, studied at the Bruxelles Ecole des Arts, and has lived in Singapore since 1989. His work, painted on large canvases, favouring a palate of late summer colours, depicts fields of wild flowers, wind-blown meadow grasses or wheat under swirling monestial blue skies. The flowers are iconographic, capturing the qualities of a flower rather than strict botanical representations. In some paintings a horizon divides the canvas into two unequal portions with turbulent skies hinting at an impending thunderstorm. Others works are gentler, concentrating on random arrangements of flowers in the foreground. His works are found in the private collections around the world.
