Paul Bompard
Paul Bompard was born in Washington D.C., lived in London. Geneva and Philadelphia, and now lives between Tel Aviv and Rome. His photographs have been shown in one-man exhibitions in Rome and Geneva, and with other artists' work in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
His work is the result of years of wandering in scrap metal merchants, and an attempt to transmit the tactile values of light and shade playing on metals (aluminium, steel, lead, silver) that have undergone stress, damage or corrosion. Perhaps allegorically to the marks left on the human soul in its passage through life.
He works with a view camera, developing and printing in a traditional
darkroom. The prints shown are either silver-gelatin printed on 30x40cm
fibre-based paper and toned in selenium, or, in the case of larger
prints, are ink-jet prints from digital scans of the original 10x12cm
negative.
Each photograph is limited to 25 signed and numbered prints.
